Ferrari to celebrate Schumacher at Monza home grand prix

Munich [Germany], September 2: Thirty years after Michael Schumacher's debut season with Ferrari, the legendary Formula One team will celebrate its most successful driver with several events on the weekend around the Italian Grand Prix home race in Monza.
Ferrari said on Tuesday that its present driver duo of Lewis Hamilton, a record champion with seven world titles like Schumacher, and Charles Leclerc will wear special race suits and compete in cars with a special livery inspired by Schumacher's first Ferrari from the 1996 season, the Ferrari F310.
More than just numbers Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel will drive a lap in the iconic Ferrari F2002 before Sunday's race to pay tribute to Schumacher. In 2002, Schumacher and his then teammate Rubens Barrichello, who will drive the same car on Saturday, won 15 of 17 races.
"Michael's time at Ferrari was about much more than just wins and titles: his relentless pursuit of perfection, attention to detail, discipline and ability to be a true team player helped create a culture that became one of the defining characteristics of the Scuderia," Ferrari said.
"Thirty years later, that culture remains part of the way Ferrari approaches competition today.
"Monza is therefore the ideal place to celebrate this legacy, not just by looking back at what was achieved, but by recognizing values that remain part of Ferrari today."
Schumacher's Ferrari era Schumacher drove for Ferrari from 1996 to 2006 and shaped an era there.
The Kerpen native, who has lived shielded from the public since a serious skiing accident at the end of 2013, became drivers' champion five times in a row with the Scuderia from 2000 to 2004 and constructors' world champion six times in a row from 1999 to 2004. He won 91 career races.
Vettel followed his idol by switching to Ferrari in 2015 but never managed to win a world title with the Scuderia after his four at Red Bull. Vettel retired in 2022.
