Assam: Ferry services between Majuli & Nimati suspended as Brahmaputra overflows amid heavy rainfall
Jun 01, 2025
Majuli (Assam), June 1, 2025 (ANI): Continuous rainfall over the past several days has caused the water level of the Brahmaputra River to rise sharply, prompting authorities to suspend ferry services between Majuli and Nimati Ghat of Jorhat. The situation turned critical after floodwaters submerged the ramps of both the Kamalabari and Afalamukh ferry terminals, leading to the temporary halting of operations. Thousands of daily commuters, including students, traders, and patients, who depend on the ferry service for essential travel, were left stranded and forced to turn back. Disaster management teams are on standby, and preparations are underway to provide assistance to affected communities if water levels continue to rise.
