Zverev leads Germany into Davis Cup finals

Hanover [Germany], September 21: Alexander Zverev defeated Dino Prizmic 6-2, 6-4 on Sunday to send Germany to the Davis Cup Finals, a week after his US Open triumph.
Zverev prevailed in 1 hour 17 minutes in Halle to give his team an unassailable 3-1 lead in the qualifier against Croatia.
World number two Zverev had also won the opening rubber on Saturday in straigth sets against Matej Dodic before Daniel Altmeier lost against Prizmic for an overnight 1-1 deadlock. Germany reclaimed the lead when Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz won Sunday's opening doubles rubber 7-5, 6-2 against Nicola Mektic and Mate Pavic.
That paved the way for Zverev to clinch a place at the eight-team finals November 24-29 in Bologna where he will hope to help Germany win the prestigious team event for the first time since 1993.
Britain also reached the finals on Sunday when Henry Patten and Neal Skupski put them 3-0 up against Ecuador with a 6-3, 6-4 doubles success over Gonzalo Escobar and Diego Hidalgo.
The last finalist is determined between Chile and Spain, with Spain 2-0 up after Saturday's rubbers.
The other qualified teams are Austria, South Korea and Canada. Hosts and title holders Italy are directly entered.
