Veteran defender Pereira joins Uruguay's Penarol

Montevideo (Uruguay), January 23: Uruguayan defender Maxi Pereira will return to his homeland to play for Penarol after 14 years in Portugal, his agent said on Friday.
The 36-year-old right-back joins the five-time Copa Libertadores champions as a free agent after agreeing to a six-month contract.
"Maximiliano Pereira will be a new player at Penarol," his long-time representative Paco Casal said on Twitter.
Penarol director Alvaro Queijo later confirmed the deal, telling the Sport 890 radio station that it was "economically favorable" for the Montevideo club.
Pereira has not played since parting ways with Porto in July 2019.
He has been capped 125 times for Uruguay in a career that has also included spells at Benfica and Defensor.
