Caracas (Venezuela), October 11: Venezuela on Sunday received more than 2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines from the COVAX program in another step towards the goal of vaccinating 70 percent of its population.
Venezuelan Health Minister Carlos Alvarado welcomed the shipment of 2,594,000 vaccine doses at the Maiquetia International Airport outside Caracas on Sunday.
This is the second shipment of vaccines that has arrived in Venezuela through COVAX, and Alvarado received it alongside officials from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
With the new shipment, it is estimated that Venezuela will meet the goal that President Nicolas Maduro has set, which is the vaccination of 70 percent of the population.
