Van Mai Huong opens up about the shock she experienced in love

Hanoi [Vietnam], May 5: Appearing on the program 'Studio 3', singer Van Mai Huong shared about her 16-year journey in the arts. Notably, the female singer recounted a period of mental crisis after a romantic setback.
Returning to the stage of Vietnam Television, the place that opened her musical dreams 16 years ago, Van Mai Huong couldn't hide her emotions when looking back at old photos from her early days in the industry. The runner-up of Vietnam Idol 2010 admitted to having suffered immense pressure due to constant public ridicule about her appearance.
"I was subjected to a lot of ridicule. It was normal for me to be on the list of worst-dressed celebrities every week," the singer recalled. Despite being confident in her singing abilities, the constant criticism of her appearance caused her long-term psychological distress. Some of her performance outfits had to be altered three times before they fit.
According to Van Mai Huong, those pressures became the motivation for her to change herself, starting a serious training journey to become healthier and more confident on stage.
Van Mai Huong recalls the period of crisis.
The most noteworthy moment of the conversation was when Van Mai Huong opened up about the shock she experienced in love. "That was when I broke up with a deeply committed boyfriend and fell into a period of near depression. I did everything my ex disliked: I cut my hair short, dyed it platinum blonde, got a dog.," the singer of "The Great Star" recounted.
The singer stated that the changes to her appearance, which were controversial at the time, were actually a reaction to prolonged emotional trauma. She also admitted that she didn't realize she was having problems until her health began to show signs of instability.
"I didn't want to go out, I didn't want to see people, I just wanted to stay home and play with my dog. Then suddenly I got a fever, and that's when I started to realize there was something wrong," the singer shared.
The superstar singer added that she had once fallen into a state of disorientation, even wanting to give up on the album she was working on because she felt things were no longer going as smoothly as before. Life's challenges are all materials that help us grow and mature.
In her early 30s, Van Mai Huong says she has learned to balance her emotions and face things more calmly. While she used to react strongly when hurt, the singer now chooses silence and forgiveness.
"I'm a forgiving person because I tend to forget. Looking back at old stories, I realize I'm very tolerant," the 9X singer revealed.
Besides her music career with many hit songs, Van Mai Huong also attracted attention when she ventured into acting . The film "Tho Oi" (Oh, Little Rabbit) in which she participated grossed approximately 450 billion VND.
Besides her work, the singer said she devotes a lot of attention to her family, especially her younger brother, who is 9 years younger than her and studying abroad. Van Mai Huong said she always sees taking care of her parents and brother as a joy rather than a burden.
Looking back on her journey, Van Mai Huong affirms that she doesn't want to erase any period in her life, even the darkest times. According to the singer, all the setbacks, from body shaming and heartbreak to professional pressure, have been the material that has helped her mature in both life and music.
