New York [US], January 9: UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has expressed regret at the US announcement that it will withdraw from 66 international organisations.
However, all UN organisations will continue to carry out their tasks, Guterres said in a statement in New York.
"The United Nations has a responsibility to deliver for those who depend on us. We will continue to carry out our mandates with determination." The White House had previously announced that the US would withdraw from 66 international organisations, including numerous UN organisations.
A presidential memorandum signed by President Donald Trump on Wednesday directs federal departments and agencies to end participation in and funding for 31 United Nations entities and 35 non-UN organisations "as soon as possible." (DPA)
