UK to 'treat people smugglers like terrorists' in new edict, says PM Starmer

Nov 05, 2024

Glasgow [Scotland], November 5: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the government will "treat people smugglers like terrorists" as he announced a further £75 million ($97 million) for his border security command on Monday.
The prime minister drew parallels with his earlier work in counter-terrorism as he spoke at the Interpol General Assembly in Glasgow, marking the start of a week-long campaign on small boat migrant crossings.
He also touted international cooperation to tackle people smuggling and said he would push to regain access to the EU's real-time intelligence sharing networks during talks in Hungary later this week. (DPA)
