Tunisia, Oman discuss boosting trade, investment ties

Tunis [Tunisia], June 21: Tunisian Minister of Trade and Export Development Samir Abid met Friday in Tunis with a high-level Omani delegation to discuss ways to strengthen economic cooperation, according to a statement issued by the Tunisian ministry.
The Omani delegation was led by Saleh bin Said bin Salem Masen, undersecretary for commerce and industry of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion.
According to the statement, the meeting underscored the strong potential for expanding bilateral trade and investment, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to deeper integration and closer economic ties.
The two delegations emphasized the importance of intensifying official visits and organizing economic missions, viewing these as essential for increasing trade flows, launching joint investment projects, and developing collaborative strategies to access international markets.
The Tunisian minister highlighted Oman's role as a key economic partner for Tunisia, citing untapped opportunities for collaboration in sectors such as automotive components, agricultural products, medical and pharmaceutical equipment, and seafood processing.
Abid also noted ongoing efforts to align technical standards and specifications to streamline trade.
For his part, Masen praised the alignment of strategic visions and the trust-based relationship that forms the foundation of Tunisian-Omani economic dialogue, reaffirming Oman's interest in increasing imports of Tunisian products, particularly olive oil and dates.
He also expressed his country's commitment to diversifying economic cooperation and tapping into Tunisian expertise.
The two sides agreed to establish joint technical working groups under the direct supervision of their respective ministries. These groups will design and implement bilateral initiatives aimed at boosting trade and fostering investment partnerships, particularly in emerging markets across Asia and Africa.
