The US has begun lifting the freeze on Venezuelan funding

Jan 29, 2026

Washington [US], January 29: Venezuelan interim President Delcy Rodriguez announced on January 27 that the United States had begun unfreezing Venezuelan funds that had been frozen under sanctions.
"This will allow us to invest significant resources in equipment for hospitals, equipment that we are purchasing in the US and other countries," AFP quoted Rodriguez as saying on television.
Caracas has been subject to Washington 's sanctions , including an oil embargo, since 2019, following Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's controversial declaration of re-election in 2018. During his first term, U.S. President Donald Trump also froze Venezuelan funds in international accounts. Those funds amounted to approximately $30 billion, according to Maduro's 2022 estimates.
Ms. Rodriguez became the acting president of Venezuela after Mr. Maduro was arrested in a US military operation on January 3. Under Ms. Rodriguez's leadership, the Venezuelan interim government signed various agreements with Washington, according to AFP.
