Slovakia posts record-low unemployment rate in April

May 21, 2025

Bratislava [Slovakia], May 21: Slovakia registered its lowest unemployment rate in modern history in April, the government announced on Tuesday.
The registered unemployment rate dipped by 0.01 percentage point from the previous month to 3.71 percent, marking the second consecutive month of record-low joblessness since 1993, said Erik Tomas, minister for labour, social affairs and family, at a press conference.
The broader unemployment rate, calculated from the total number of job-seekers, stood at 5.79 percent. The total number of unemployed individuals dropped to around 161,000 -- 693 fewer than in March, he added.
Tomas noted that the government has adopted a series of measures to support employment. However, he warned that the recent introduction of U.S. tariffs on European Union countries could pose a risk to the labour market and potentially drive unemployment higher in the future.
