Seoul reports short-range missile launch by North Korea toward the Sea of Japan

Aug 07, 2026

Seoul [South Korea], August 7: North Korea has fired at least one short-range ballistic missile toward the Sea of Japan, South Korean military officials said on Thursday.
The missile was launched near the North Korean coastal city of Wonsan, South Korea's official news agency Yonhap reported. Details regarding the missile's exact range were not immediately available.
According to Yonhap, this was Pyongyang's 10th ballistic missile launch this year.
Under several UN Security Council resolutions, the country is generally prohibited from launching ballistic missiles. Experts suspect that North Korea is seeking to demonstrate its strength ahead of military exercises by South Korean and US forces later this month. (DPA)
