In all my years of singing and acting, I've had very challenging roles, but in this film, I always felt burdened because every night when I got home I had to think about what I needed to do on set the next day to portray the character effectively."
After watching "The Underground Tunnel: The Sun in the Darkness," Huynh Lap shared that he was impressed by the portrayal of Meritorious Artist Cao Minh as a soldier. Therefore, when looking for actors for his project, he immediately thought of the veteran actor. "When I contacted him, I was very nervous. I called him to tell him what I was thinking and arranged to meet him in person to share more deeply. But about two hours later, he called back and said he liked the script and accepted the role right away."
At the event, Huynh Lap revealed that he had been nurturing the idea of ​​" Summer Vacation Afraid of Retirement" while filming " Ancestral House" : "It took me half a year to write the script. After experiencing two major national holidays, I believe that young Vietnamese people are very interested in this topic, so I was even more motivated to realize the idea. Then, I participated in 'Stars Join the Army' and felt the spirit of a soldier more clearly. This project has been brewing in me for a long time, not because I saw previous historical works being well-received and wanted to follow suit. I feel I have a responsibility to spread the spirit of patriotism."
Huynh Lap candidly stated that this was a "risky" project for him. According to him, the film's theme is too broad, encompassing imagery, meaning, and emotions across generations. "This isn't a historical film, but a film where a young person like me can look at history. I'm not trying to prove history in any particular way, but rather to demonstrate the feelings of the younger generation towards their ancestors. I hope that my boldness will be accepted and appreciated by the audience," the director shared.
