Police apprehend suspect in Ljubljana bus stabbing

Ljubljana [Slovenia], November 15: Slovenian police have apprehended a 37-year-old man suspected of stabbing a bus driver in central Ljubljana on Thursday afternoon, the Ljubljana Police Department said Friday.
The stabbing occurred near the main train and bus stations in the Bavarski Dvor area at around 5:30 p.m. (1630 GMT) on Thursday. Local media reported that following a scuffle between two men on a city bus, the bus stopped abruptly at a station. The driver was seriously wounded, but the suspect fled after the attack.
The seriously injured driver was taken to Ljubljana University Medical Centre. His life remains in danger, police said.
On Friday, the national trade union of bus drivers urged authorities to take immediate measures to enhance driver safety, calling for the installation of protective barriers in buses, mandatory training for handling violent situations, improved protocols for cooperation with police, and psychological support for victims.
Police said the motive for the stabbing and the circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.
