Ottawa [Canada], August 10: The attack occurred on August 8 (local time) at the radar station on Brevoort Island, in Canada 's northeastern territory of Nunavut , according to Nasittuq Corporation, the logistics company that won the contract to manage the station.
"The attack by two polar bears took the precious life of one of our employees," Nasittuq said, adding that other company employees arrived at the scene and shot one of the bears.
The radar station on Brevoort Island is one of dozens of stations that make up the North Warning System in Canada's far north.
This system allows warnings of intruding aircraft or early detection of cruise missile attacks.
The Northern Warning System's coverage area extends up to 5,000 km from Alaska (USA) to Labrador in eastern Canada.
