Norway launches new scheme to attract researchers from outside Europe

Oslo [Norway], June 3: The Norwegian government on Monday announced the launch of a new scheme aimed at attracting experienced researchers from outside Europe to Norway, in a bid to boost the quality and internationalization of the country's research sector.
"Norway must be proactive in a demanding situation for academic freedom in the world," said Minister of Research and Higher Education Sigrun Aasland in a statement, adding that the situation for researchers in countries like the United States "makes it urgent to offer attractive schemes to ensure that skilled researchers want to settle and work in Norway."
The program will have a total budget of 300 million Norwegian kroner (29.8 million U.S. dollars), to be allocated over the period from 2025 to 2028.
The initiative is designed to enhance the mobility of researchers and to strengthen the ability of Norwegian research institutions to connect with talented international scholars.
"Through this call, we want to contribute to more predictability, both for researchers and research institutions," said Mari Sundli Tveit, director of the Research Council of Norway.
