My Tam reveals her 'trick' when arguing with Mai Tai Phen.

Feb 06, 2026

Hanoi [Vietnam], February 6: At the press conference for the film 'Tai', My Tam shared her thoughts on returning to filmmaking as a producer after 7 years.
On the afternoon of February 3rd, a showcase introducing the film "Tai" was held in Ho Chi Minh City, bringing together a cast of artists including Meritorious Artist Hanh Thuy , Hong Anh, Sy Toan, Long Dep Trai, Tran Kim Hai, etc. It is known that this is a film project directed by Mai Tai Phen, with My Tam serving as producer.
A notable highlight at the showcase was the announcement of the film's release date. Previously, there were rumors that the film would be released on the first day of the Lunar New Year, directly competing with works by Tran Thanh, Truong Giang, etc. However, at the event, the production team announced that Tai will be released on March 6, 2026.
The return of My Tam
According to My Tam, when the project "Tai" was announced, many viewers were looking forward to its release during the Lunar New Year. However, the singer affirmed that she and her team had no intention of releasing the film at that time. "I was only wondering whether we should release it a little earlier or right around March 8th. There are already many excellent Lunar New Year films, so why add another one? I think releasing it on March 6th is reasonable," My Tam expressed.
My Tam further shared that when Mai Tai Phen sent the script, she considered it and decided to let him take on the role of director. From a producer's perspective, the singer felt that the 9X actor had a more multifaceted perspective, so he "would do best in the directorial role." Regarding her involvement in the scriptwriting process, My Tam frankly admitted: "To be precise, I did offer some suggestions to see if it would be better that way. This script is entirely Mai Tai Phen's; I only participated in about 10% of it."
Speaking about her decision to return to acting after more than 7 years, My Tam shared that since the milestone film "My Assistant," she has made the documentary "The Keeper of Time" and currently " Tai ." The singer said that many people have asked her why she didn't continue acting. However, My Tam believes that she needs suitable roles and that everything depends on fate.
"For me, art has always been like that. Even in music , when I do a show, I have to feel a connection and a lot of inspiration before I can do it. Luckily, Tai gave me a lot of inspiration, so I decided to go ahead with it," the 80s-era singer confided.
Speaking about her acting role in "Tai ," My Tam humorously said: "I asked for a role. Every time during pre-production, I asked for a little more dialogue, and Long Dep Trai (the handsome guy) would say it was probably 'a system'. Actually, I did act, but only in small roles, not much. If I were to share, there would be nothing left to share. But I'm really happy in the role of producer. From the beginning, I decided I wouldn't participate much in the film, just be a character to add some emotion to the movie. As for the producer role, I got to meet many people and work in a very lovely team environment."
During the working process, My Tam admitted that she and Mai Tai Phen inevitably had heated arguments. She confided: "Usually, I think that doing things a certain way would be better, but Mai Tai Phen would say that his intention was different. We couldn't find common ground, it was like, 'I think I'm saying this, but why don't people understand?'" According to the 8X singer, their solution was to reconsider their ideas and bring the issue up for everyone to see and get feedback from those around them. "Whichever direction is better, we'll follow that direction," she said.
