Many officials who prosecuted Mr. Trump were fired

Jan 28, 2025

New York [US], January 28: CNN reported on January 27 that the US Department of Justice has fired dozens of officials involved in criminal investigations against Mr. Trump.
In a letter of notice, Acting Attorney General James McHenry argued that these officials cannot be trusted to carry out the president's agenda.
"You played a critical role in prosecuting President Trump. The functioning of government depends largely on the trust that senior officials have in their subordinates. Given your critical role in prosecuting the President, I do not believe that the Department's leadership can trust you to faithfully carry out the President's agenda," McHenry said.
In addition to the dismissals, the Trump administration is also investigating prosecutors involved in the investigation of defendants in the riot at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
According to Reuters, the chief federal prosecutor in Washington DC, who was appointed by Mr. Trump, has opened an internal review of the application of obstruction of justice charges against those allegedly involved in the January 6, 2021 incident. Last year, the US Supreme Court raised the threshold for applying this charge, causing prosecutors to drop prosecutions in many cases.
In a report released in early January, prosecutor Jack Smith concluded that Mr. Trump had engaged in "an unprecedented criminal effort" to maintain power after losing the 2020 presidential election. Mr. Smith closed the investigations and resigned before Mr. Trump took office.
