London [UK], June 2: A man has died and a child was injured after a shooting incident at a shopping center in Carlow, Ireland, local media reported on Sunday.
The incident happened at the Fairgreen Shopping Centre in Carlow town at around 6:15 p.m. (1715 GMT).
The shopping center has been evacuated and cordoned off as the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has been requested to attend the scene as a precaution, according to Sky News.
It is understood that the dead man's wounds were self-inflicted, according to reports. The girl suffered minor injuries and did not require hospital care, police said.
Jim O'Callaghan, Ireland's minister for justice, home affairs and migration, described the incident as "shocking."
"This is something we never want or expect to happen in our communities. Gun violence is very rare in Ireland, and I am determined that will remain the case," he said.
