Light aircraft sinks in Switzerland's Lake Lucerne

Geneva [Switzerland], July 29: A light aircraft has sunk in Lake Lucerne in Switzerland following an incident with initially unclear causes. A police spokesman said on Monday it was not yet possible to determine whether the pilot attempted an emergency landing on the water or crashed. According to unconfirmed media reports, the aircraft was on its way to Feuerstein Castle in Bavaria. A spokesman for the Lucerne police confirmed only that a light aircraft had sunk in the lake. He said it was initially visible on the water's surface but then sank.Numerous police, fire brigade and rescue teams are in action. The spokesman did not provide any information about the departure or destination location or the occupants on board.Lake Lucerne in central Switzerland is a popular holiday and excursion area: With rainy and cool weather currently, fewer excursion boats than usual are likely to have been in operation.
