Halle [Germany], January 16: A 33-year-old Iraqi man was sentenced to four years in prison without parole in Germany on Thursday over his membership in the terrorist Islamic State organization.
The man was a member of the militia from at least May 2014 to November 2016, said the presiding judge at the court in the eastern city of Halle.
The Iraqi national's name was found on a list of Islamic State members secured by US authorities and deemed authentic. Largely active in eastern Syria and western Iran, the man held various positions within the group in a "not insignificant role," the judge said.
