Iraq and Syria reopen airspace after Israel-Iran flare-up

Damascus [Syria], June 9: Iraq and Syria have reopened their airspace, after closing it amid renewed attacks traded by Israel and Iran. The current situation is being closely monitored, Iraq's Civil Aviation Authority said on Monday, according to the state news agency INA. The "highest level of security" is in place in Iraqi airspace, the authority said. Iraq had previously announced a 72-hour closure in response to the recent attacks, which would have expired on Wednesday evening.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported the reopening of the country's airspace, citing the relevant authorities. Air traffic and operations at Damascus International Airport resumed from the afternoon onwards.
It had previously been stated that Syria's airspace was to remain closed until 11 pm on Monday night (2000 GMT).
Both countries are geographically situated between Iran and Israel and are therefore in the line of fire in the event of mutual attacks by the two arch-enemies. (DPA)
