GTA warns against fraudulent electronic impersonation attempts

Doha [Qatar], March 4: As part of its commitment to strengthening the security of tax transactions, the General Tax Authority has warned of an increase in fraud attempts carried out by parties impersonating the Authority through phone calls, text messages, or emails, with the aim of obtaining personal or banking information or requesting payment of sums of money.
The Authority explained that these attempts rely on sophisticated deceptive methods to mislead taxpayers into believing their legitimacy by using fake links. It emphasised that these entities have no affiliation whatsoever with the Authority and that it never requests confidential numbers, banking details, or personal information via phone calls, messages, or email.
The Authority stressed that all its official services and procedures are provided exclusively through the Dhareeba Tax Platform and approved official channels, urging taxpayers not to engage with any suspicious messages, not to open untrusted links, and not to share any sensitive information.
The Authority also called for the immediate reporting of any fraud attempts to the competent authorities in order to safeguard data and ensure the security of tax transactions.
It further affirmed tha t information security and the protection of taxpayers' data are top priorities, and that it continues its efforts to raise awareness of the risks of electronic fraud, thereby enhancing trust and ensuring a secure and reliable tax system.
In a separate advisory, the GTA has warned taxpayers about a rise in fraud attempts by individuals impersonating the Authority through phone calls, text messages, and emails to obtain personal or banking information or demand payments.
