GM Quader made Bangladesh's leader of opposition in parliament

Dhaka [Bangladesh], January 29: Bangladesh's Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman GM Quader has been made leader of the opposition in the country's 12th parliament.
Another JP leader Anisul Islam Mahmud was made deputy leader of the opposition.
Bangladesh's parliament secretariat published a gazette in this regard on Sunday.
In accordance with the gazette, Bangladeshi Parliament Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury recognised both Quader and Mahmud as opposition leader and deputy leader respectively.
The recognitions came weeks after Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was sworn in for her fourth straight five-year term on Jan. 11.
Hasina took office after her ruling Bangladesh Awami League (AL) party won a landslide victory in the country's 12th parliament elections held on Jan. 7.
According to a gazette notification published by the Election Commission, the AL party won 222 out of 298 seats of the parliament in general elections.
The result showed that independent candidates won 62 seats while the Jatiya Party bagged 11 seats and other AL allies got two seats. Apart from this, another political group the Bangladesh Kalyan Party secured one seat.
