Germany takes in 141 refugees from Sudan and other crisis regions

Apr 25, 2025

Berlin [Germany], April 25: A plane carrying 141 refugees, mostly from war-torn Sudan, landed in Germany on Thursday, according to officials.
The aircraft took off from Cairo and landed in the northern German city of Hanover on Thursday morning, the Interior Ministry said. The group, comprised of particularly vulnerable refugees from crisis zones, was granted humanitarian permission to enter Germany as part of the EU resettlement programme upon referral by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), according to the ministry.
The group includes families, single mothers and 77 minors found to be particularly vulnerable due to experiences of torture and violence or medical needs, for example. The EU resettlement scheme governs humanitarian admission of non-EU nationals in need of protection to an EU country upon referral by a relevant international body. (DPA)
