French Prime Minister announces new cabinet

Dec 25, 2024

Paris [France], December 25: New French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou officially announced the composition of his new cabinet on December 23, more than 2 weeks after being appointed by President Emmanuel Macron.
According to Euronews, the new cabinet includes 34 ministers, from the right, center and left. In this list, Minister of the Armed Forces Sebastien Lecornu, Minister of Culture Rachida Dati, Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noel Barrot all keep their positions. In addition, the new cabinet also includes 2 former prime ministers and 2 former ministers who have been transferred to management sectors. The first meeting of the Council of Ministers of the government of French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou is expected to be held on January 3, 2025.
However, it is unclear whether the new government can last long, with left-wing parties expressing disappointment after negotiations with newly appointed Prime Minister Bayrou.
According to The Guardian , France is currently facing a deep political crisis since President Emmanuel Macron called for early parliamentary elections in June, leading to a "hung parliament" because no party won a majority of seats.
Sharing about the new cabinet on the X platform, French Prime Minister Bayrou expressed pride, describing it as "a team with a wealth of experience in reconciling and restoring trust with all French people".
In addition, France is also facing serious economic burdens in the context of rising national debt and large budget deficits. Therefore, one of the priorities of the French government is to solve public debt problems , cut spending and push for the early passage of the 2025 budget bill.
