Five dead and four injured in mine explosion in Spain

Madrid [Spain], April 1: Five workers died and four others were injured in an explosion at a mine in northern Spain, the emergency services said on Monday.
The death toll rose after the body of the last miner who had been reported missing was recovered, the regional newspaper La Nueva España and the state TV broadcaster RTVE reported.
Some of the injured suffered severe burns.
Regional leader Adrian Barbon declared two days of mourning in Asturias. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez also expressed his condolences.
The cause of the accident at the mine near the village of Degaña in Asturias was initially unknown, La Nueva España reported, adding that the workers had been in the mine to inspect the extraction of graphite and that a machine might have exploded. (DPA)
