Aug 18, 2026

Erbil [Iraq], August 18: Drones targeted the private office of Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and the residence of a senior security official near Erbil early Monday, in a potentially significant escalation amid heightened regional tensions.
The Kurdistan Region's Counter-Terrorism Directorate said two explosive-laden drones targeted the properties in Pirmam, also known as Salah al-Din district, about 20 kilometres north-east of Erbil, at around 12.25 am (2125 GMT Sunday).
No casualties were reported. Barzani said the attack had been confirmed following an investigation and condemned it as an "unacceptable" act and a dangerous development that directly targeted the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region. (DPA)
