Driver released from custody after fatal crash in Germany

Berlin [Germany], May 4: The driver of an SUV that hit a group of people waiting at a tram stop in the south-western German city of Stuttgart has been released from custody, police and the public prosecutor's office said on Saturday.
The authorities are investigating the 42-year-old German man, who has no prior convictions, on suspicion of negligent homicide and negligent bodily harm, they said. A 46-year-old woman was admitted to hospital after the accident on Friday, but succumbed to her injuries. Seven others were injured, including five children.
A police spokesman said that those injured were out of danger. The man, who was driving a dark Mercedes G class luxury SUV, had a five-year-old child in the car, police said. (DPA)
