Denmark extends border controls with Germany due to terrorism threat

Apr 13, 2025

Copenhagen [Denmark], April 13: Denmark is extending its border controls with Germany for another six months, as the threat of terrorism against Denmark remains serious, the Danish Justice Ministry announced on Friday evening.
The threat stems from militants and is a consequence of the conflict in the Middle East, the ministry said.
"The terrorist threat against Denmark is serious. This shows me that we must continue to carefully consider who we allow to cross our country's borders," Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard said in a statement.
By continuing the temporary border controls, the aim is to ensure that the police have this tool available in the fight against terrorism and cross-border crime.
Denmark first introduced border controls in early 2016 during the refugee crisis and has repeatedly extended them for various reasons. At times, the controls were eased, while at other times they were tightened. (DPA)
