Cuba forecasts normal to below-average Atlantic hurricane activities

Havana [Cuba], May 12: Cuba's Institute of Meteorology (Insmet) on Thursday forecast normal to below-average activities during the upcoming 2023 Atlantic hurricane season from June 1 to Nov. 30.The institute anticipated 11 tropical storms in the region, with five of them likely intensifying into hurricanes.Out of the projected 11 storms, seven are anticipated to occur in the Atlantic Ocean, two to impact the Gulf of Mexico and the other two to affect the Caribbean Sea, according to Insmet.The 2022 Atlantic hurricane season concluded with a total of 14 named storms. Cuba is still recovering from the significant financial losses caused by Hurricane Ian's destructive path across the island's western tip in September last year.Source: Xinhua
