Conflict over humanitarian aid in Gaza Strip

Jun 09, 2025

Gaza [Palestine], June 9: The Gaza Humanitarian Fund (GHF - headquartered in the US) said on June 8 that the fund has temporarily reopened only one aid distribution point in the central Gaza Strip, after closing all distribution points in this territory due to threats from Hamas forces.
According to The Times of Israel, previous distribution points were crowded and people had to walk many kilometers to receive them. The UN and other organizations criticized GHF, saying that people should not be forced to walk through Israeli soldiers to receive them. In turn, GHF criticized the UN for not cooperating with the only mechanism through which Israel allows large-scale aid to Gaza .
Responding to the GHF allegations, a Hamas official said he had no knowledge of the threats. The Hamas-run Gaza media office later said the GHF operation had "completely failed at every level" and that Hamas was ready to help ensure aid deliveries through a UN-led humanitarian operation. Israel and the US have accused Hamas of stealing aid from UN-led operations, a charge Hamas denies.
Regarding the safety of aid recipients, Al Jazeera on June 8 quoted a medical source at al-Awda Hospital in Gaza as saying that four Palestinians were killed and 70 others were injured by Israeli fire near a US-supported aid distribution point in southern Gaza. Israel has not commented on the information. In another development, the Israeli army on June 8 said it had attacked a Hamas member in the Mazraat Beit Jin area in southern Syria.
