7 teenagers break out of Italian prison

Dec 27, 2022

Milan [Italy], December 27: Seven juvenile offenders broke out of a Milan prison on Sunday, taking advantage of their yard exercise period to scale the walls, Italian media reported on Monday.
Just one warder was on duty as the boys, aged between 17 and 19, took their exercise, the reports said. Two escapees were recaptured the same evening, apparently after family members intervened. A third handed himself in on Monday after being convinced to do so by his parents. A fire also broke out in the Cesare Beccaria prison on Sunday evening, when other inmates set fire to mattresses. The emergency services doused the fire later in the evening. Four warders were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
