Jakarta [Indonesia], August 26: Three crew members went missing in Indonesia after their boat capsized off Barito River in the country's Central Kalimantan province, a local official said on Thursday.
Their vessel carrying four crew members with jerrycans of clean water sank Wednesday at around 6 p.m. local time (1100 GMT) after it was hit by bad weather and high waves off the province's North Barito district.
RizaliHadi of the North Barito Disaster Mitigation Agency told local media that a crew member in the accident managed to swim to the river bank and was helped by people nearby. However, the other three crew were still not found.
According to him, search and rescue agencies from the province's capital Palangkaraya were also joining the search for the victims with their equipment.
Maritime accidents are common in Indonesia, a Southeast Asian archipelago of around 17,000 islands, due to lax safety standards.
