Trump announces 'Operation Aurora' against immigrants

Washington [US], October 12: Former US President Donald Trump on October 11 continued to make tough statements about his commitment to fight against immigrants if elected.
As an opponent of illegal immigration , Mr. Trump considers the massive migration to the US as an "invasion." In a speech in Aurora, Colorado, Mr. Trump announced "Operation Aurora" against immigrants, The Guardian reported on October 11.
"Immediately upon taking office, we will have Operation Aurora at the federal level to accelerate the removal of immigrants," he said, stressing that this would include using the Foreign Enemies Act of 1798. The law allows for the arrest and deportation of non-US citizens in times of war, or if the sitting president declares the country is under "invasion."
"I am calling for the death penalty for any immigrant who kills an American citizen or law enforcement officer," Trump said . The former president also announced that he would propose a bill to ban all "sanctuary cities" - a term used to describe areas that protect undocumented immigrants.
The move adds to the Republican presidential candidate's hardline stance on immigration in this year's election. Mr. Trump has recently described immigrants suspected in murders as "bad genes." He has repeatedly vowed to carry out the largest deportation drive in U.S. history if he returns to the White House.
Also on October 11, Vice President Kamala Harris held a campaign event in Scottsdale, Arizona. Writing on social media X, Ms. Harris emphasized that if re-elected, she would fix the broken immigration system. "This includes securing the border and providing a humane path to citizenship for hardworking people. I reject the false idea that we can't do both," she said.
