Aug 02, 2022

Khartoum (Sudan), August 2: Sudan's health ministry announced on Monday the first confirmed case of monkeypox in the country.
"The first confirmed case of monkeypox has been recorded in West Darfur State in a 16-year-old student," the ministry said in a statement.
The case was confirmed after a sample was examined at the National Public Health Laboratory, it added.
"Thirty-eight suspected cases have been recorded, all of them negative, except for the case of West Darfur," Monastir Mohamed Osman, director of the general directorate of health emergency and epidemic control at the ministry, was quoted as saying in the statement.
He said the health ministry was helping the West Darfur State's health authority identify the source of the infection.
