1,100 Afghan families receive China-donated food aid

Aug 18, 2022

Kabul [Afghanistan], August 18: A total of 1,100 needy Afghan families received food aid in the capital city of Kabul on Wednesday, said Mufti Habibullah, a senior official from the Afghan Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation Affairs.
The Chinese government's humanitarian assistance is distributed to a total of 1,100 households, including internally displaced people, needy families and those who were affected by a natural disaster, particularly the latest heavy rainfalls and floods, Habibullah told Xinhua.
According to the official, each family received 50 kg of wheat.
Mohammad Farooq, a resident in Kabul who is from a family of eight and suffers from leg disability, expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for the aids, saying China had done a lot for the Afghan people in the past.
"China has provided much assistance for the people of Afghanistan over the last ... year," said Farooq.
About 25 million of the 35 million population in the war-torn and cash-strapped country live in poverty.
To help prevent a possible humanitarian catastrophe, China pledged 250 million yuan (about 37 million U.S. dollars) worth of aid to Afghanistan, including food supplies and winter clothes.
